Each half-term your child’s teacher will provide a selection of suggested activities for you to work on with your child at home. These activities closely match the learning that your child will be doing in class during the upcoming weeks and are valuable exercises to help them consolidate their ideas.
Although the teacher will not set a specific task each week or set deadlines for completion, we recommend your child completes activities from the grids at home on a ‘little and often’ basis, which fits in with your home routine. Homework should be a positive and rewarding experience to promote a love of learning and instil confidence – the teacher would love to hear about the tasks which children have completed at home!
Please click on the links below to view the optional homework grids for this half term.
Miss Heagrty will inform you which phonics phase your child is working within. Below you can find activities and word lists linked to each phase so you
can help your child practise at home:

Phonics is taught throughout Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 on a daily basis where children are split into ability groups.
All pupils are grouped according to ability and will spend approximately 20 minutes each day doing an activity to develop their reading skills. Two of these daily activities will be "guided" by a teacher or teaching assistant which means that every child will experience two intensive "guided" reading sessions per week.
Reading is taught through synthetic phonics based on the Letters and Sounds phonic programme. We use a variety of reading schemes, mainly Oxford Reading Tree. During daily reading workshop carousels the teacher and teaching assistant teach reading through guided groups on a rota basis. Daily phonic sessions are taught within three ability groups. Homework is given at the end of each week relating to the phonics we have worked on in class.
We aim to make maths as much fun as possible through daily singing, playing board games and by doing various practical problem solving activities. There are also lots of 'real life' maths opportunities when we are working in the kitchen area with Mrs Horne on a Friday afternoon.

Year 2's PE lessons are on Wednesday and Thursdays. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times, suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities. Indoor PE kit is pumps or bare feet (not trainers), dark shorts and a white T-shirt. Long hair should be tied back and earrings taken out. Trainers and track suit bottoms may be worn for outside PE only.
